Wasteland. Destruction. Wilderness.
None of those words evoke gratitude and thanksgiving in my heart. In fact, when I hear those words or reflect on areas in my life that resemble those things I want to move on, run, and forget. But not the Lord. To God, the wastelands, wilderness, and ruins of destruction are fertile grounds to cultivate a garden of his goodness and glory!
“The Lord will comfort Israel again and have pity on her ruins. Her desert will blossom like Eden, her barren wilderness like the garden of the Lord. Joy and gladness will be found there. Songs of thanksgiving will fill the air.” ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭51‬:‭3‬ ‭NLT‬‬
It’s easy to look at the blessings and be thankful, but have you looked at the wasteland, wilderness, and ruins of destruction and given the Lord praise? Even before the garden blooms we can give thanks. We can agree with heaven and trust that the Lord is at work.
Nothing is too hard, too wrecked, or too dry for the lush garden of the goodness of the Lord to grow. Thanksgiving is powerful. Praise the Lord for the blessings and the difficulties and watch the joy grow!
