I think my mom started making homemade hot cocoa mix when I was in elementary school. At the time, I didn’t appreciate it. I wanted the packets with the fake crunchy marshmallows like my friends. But when I tasted theirs compared to mine? Well, there was no comparison. I love how easy this recipe is and that when you pair a little bag of it with a cute mug, you have an instant and adorable Christmas gift!

INGREDIENTS

  • 8-quart bag or box of instant milk
  • 11-13 oz container of powdered creamer
  • 16 oz Nestle’s Quik
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar

Mix all together and feel free to get creative. If you like your cocoa more chocolatey, add a 1/4 cup of Hershey’s cocoa, My sister one time crushed those powdery pillow mints and added that to the mix. Me? I like to put about 2 tsps of cinnamon in. That’s my favorite.

To make a cup of hot cocoa, its not made like other typical mixes. You fill your cup almost halfway full of mix, then add boiling water. Since there’s milk and cream already in there, it is the perfect blend. Top with whipped cream and a dust of cinnamon. Enjoy!
