How do you know if you’re on the right course? This boater might have thought he was, but it was dark and he was believed to have been “impaired”.
There are many times we believe we’re on the course God has set us on, but are we? We pray and say, “God, lead me where you want me to go!” We may try a shortcut or a side path and then find ourselves way off course and sometimes even shipwrecked! And then we blame God. Why would he lead us into danger? But did He? Or did our own overconfidence or ego or impatience get in the way of keeping a straight path?!
Many people today are looking for a shortcut to spirituality. They’re looking for the quick fix, for the emotional experience that will transform their lives. But there are no shortcuts to spirituality. If you want to grow and indeed flourish as a Christian and stay on God’s path, it will come down to a day-to-day commitment that you make. Be consistent. Make a commitment to sink your roots deeply into Him, and you will see spiritual fruit in your life. You also will find happiness in the truest sense of the word. You will also find the destination He’s had for you all along. Ask God to help keep you in His will so you don’t shipwreck your life.
