The other morning, as I drove into work at 0:dark thirty, I noticed an odd sound coming from my car. I don’t remember hitting anything on the road. But, something was definetely wrong! I began to slow down. Then eventually, I heard the sound and knew it was my back tire. UGH!

I was right by the Hudsonville exit, westbound on I-196, so it was easy for me to pull off the highway. I was able to make it to the gas station. Got out of my car and saw this.

I will be honest, in years past, I probably would’ve been quite angry. But, as I have been learning what it means to have an attitude of gratitude, and living in a state of thanksliving, my initial reaction was, “Thank you Lord that this was all that happened.” I took some inventory and thought, “I’m safe. I’m in a safe location. No further damage. I’m alright.” In years’ past, I would’ve thought, “Why? Why does this stuff have to happen? How much will this cost me? (insert drama here)

But, as I have learned that God is in control, these issues don’t rattle me near as much as they did before. It’s the choice of giving thanks everyday. The idea of, “Thanksliving”.

Here are the words to a song that has really meant a lot to me in the last few weeks, “Gratitude” by Brandon Lake.

All my words fall short
I got nothing new
How could I express
All my gratitude?

I could sing these songs
As I often do
But every song must end
And You never do

So I throw up my hands
And praise You again and again
‘Cause all that I have is a hallelujah
Hallelujah
And I know it’s not much
But I’ve nothing else fit for a King
Except for a heart singing hallelujah
Hallelujah

I’ve got one response
I’ve got just one move
With my arm stretched wide
I will worship You

So I throw up my hands
And praise You again and again
‘Cause all that I have is a hallelujah
Hallelujah
And I know it’s not much
But I’ve nothing else fit for a King
Except for a heart singing hallelujah
Hallelujah

So come on, my soul
Oh, don’t you get shy on me
Lift up your song
‘Cause you’ve got a lion inside of those lungs
Get up and praise the Lord

Oh come on, my soul
Oh, don’t you get shy on me
Lift up your song
‘Cause you’ve got a lion inside of those lungs
Get up and praise the Lord

Come on, my soul
Oh, don’t you get shy on me
Lift up your song
‘Cause you’ve got a lion inside of those lungs
Get up and praise the Lord, hey

Praise the Lord
Praise the Lord

Praise the Lord

So I throw up my hands
Praise You again and again
‘Cause all that I have is a hallelujah
Hallelujah
And I know it’s not much
But I’ve nothing else fit for a King
Except for a heart singing hallelujah
Hallelujah
